A few kilometres outside Sigtuna town you will find the well preserved crofter village Viby by.
During the 19th century it was populated by tenant crofters. Here, generations of tenant farmers struggled for survival under difficult conditions for several hundred of years. Until today, the village looks almost as it did, 200 years ago.
The village’s farms, mostly from the 1900s, illustrate the way of life before the great reforms. Each farm has several buildings for different functions, typical of the old peasant society.
Several Swedish films have been shot here, including “Ride of the Night” and “Glass Blowing’s children.”
Viby village is worth visiting and is suitable for picnics. Everyone has access and you can walk around freely without charge, but remember to respect the nature.
