Sigtuna summer events 2013

On the 1st of June Sigtuna Museum’s new permanent exhibition “From Ingegerd to Estelle – an exhibition about the Swedish princesses ” opens.

Princess Christina, sister of the reigning king of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf, inaugurates the exhibition at 12.00.

June 1, the Ingegerd Festival is celebrated throughout Sigtuna including a fashion show, parade, music, sport and water activities. The Culture School’s Day takes place as well at the main square in Sigtuna. From 10 AM to 10 PM.

June 1, Summer Art exhibition at Steninge Palace with Yrjö Edelmann.

June 1 – Skokloster Castle Summer Exhibition. In this summer’s major exhibition, Min skattkammare (My treasury), famous Swedish people with different backgrounds and different interests, have chosen their favourite artifact in Skokloster Castle’s furniture, art, tools and weapons from different centuries to find their own, personal treasure. Exhibition is open from June 1 to September 30.

June 4th, Nordic Orienteering Tour 2013

The competition is part of the 2013 World Cup and gathers competitors from all over the world. Nordic Orienteering Tour 2013 starts in Oslo and takes place in Sigtuna on June 4 with Helsinki as a final destination. The national Swedish public TV broadcaster, Swedish Television, will be broadcasting the finals live from Sigtuna!

June 6, Valsta Day & National Day Celebrations in Sigtuna town. Children’s National Day will be celebrated at Steninge castle

June 13 to 15, Hultsfred music festival at STOXA

One of Sweden’s biggest music festivals, the Hultsfred festival, will be held at STOXA in Sigtuna for the first time. August 16 to 17, Sigtuna Literature Festival 2013

On August 17 to 18, we welcome you to Sigtuna Literature Festival for the second time! Sigtuna will be filled with authors such as Henning Mankell (Wallander), Erik Axl Sund (Crow Girl (2010), Hunger Fire (2011) and Pythia’s Instructions (2012). Enjoy discussions, workshops, exhibitions and lectures. The festival has something to offer for both children and adults. August 24 to 25, Sigtuna Meeting, a festival in the spirit of 1912.

Experience Sigtuna’s traditional market days with music, dance and contemporary crafts. Still today, many participants and visitors dress up in 1910 costumes.
