About the Palaces and Castles

Rosersberg Palace

This royal palace was built by Gabriel Bengtsson Oxenstierna in the 1630s. Here you can find some of Europe’s best preserved Empire interiors. The palace has a beautiful English park and a café, restaurant and a hotel. Guided tours are available in English from May to September. Don’t miss the exhibition ”Royal porcelain from Rörstrand – the Rörstrand porcelain factory” until September 30.

Steninge Castle

Steninge castle was built in 1705. Its exquisite buildings are surrounded by a spacious garden. The nearby historic stone barn offers country shops, cafe and a restaurant. Six weeks before Christmas, Steninge hosts one of Sweden’s most popular indoor Christmas markets. Open every day, weekdays 11am–6pm, weekends 10am–5pm. The castle itself is closed for visitors.

Skånelaholm Manor House

The 17th century manor house is today known for the numerous and diverse collections of anything from fine arts to cigars.
The manor house is accessible during guided tours Wednesdays to Sundays, May 3 –  September 30.
Guided tours at 11 pm, 12 pm, 2 am and 3 pm.

Skokloster Castle

Welcome to the 17th century, Sweden’s Age of Greatness, and to one of the most evocative and astonishing milieus anywhere in Europe. Magnificent collections of crafts, unique paintings and a large armoury. Open for the summer season: May & September Sat–Sun (11am–4pm; Jun–Aug daily 11am–5pm) The castle is open for groups by arrangement all year and around the Swedish school autumn holliday and for a christmas market weekend in December 2-3. Don’t miss Jousting at the castle 28-30 July.

Wenngarns Castle

Each period with its counts, dukes and landlords have left their marks on Wenngarn since the 12th century when a dispute of heritage was described in Sweden’s oldest preserved letter. Wenngarn is packed with exciting historical anecdotes and contains one of Sweden’s best preserved castle chapels, dating from Sweden’s Age of Greatness (during the 17th and early 18th centuries). Today the castle is open all year round. The café is open everyday of the week and guided tours are held certain days. Wenngarnsommar offers a lot of exciting activities during June 25 – August 20 and don’t miss Jousting in June 30-July 2.
